HURRICANES KATRINA AND RITA COULD BE DUE TO LOW PRESSURE

HURRICANES KATRINA AND RITA COULD BE DUE TO LOW PRESSURE (VACUUM) IN THE GULF OF MEXICO CAUSED BY BURNING FLAMES FROM OIL PLATFORMS AND REFINERIES
INTRODUCTION
The pictures shown on television after the passage of Katrina was so gruesome that left no person indifferent. May the souls those who perished rest in peace.

Then came the pictures before and after Rita on 24 September 2005 that drew my attention to my childhood experience that I will like to share with scientists and world leaders.

CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCE
There was a traditional doctor who used to treat my uncle. My uncle suffered often from painful and swollen legs. The traditional doctor came on request to treat my uncle’s legs. He made some scarification at the legs using razor blades and then aspirated blood from them.

The traditional doctor burned a piece of paper in a cup and as it was still burning he put the mouth of the cup on the cut surface (Fig I). After one hour he removed the cup with force and emptied some blood from it. It was a dreadful site to me.

It was later on when I went to secondary school and studied physics that I understood that the aspiration technique of the traditional doctor was based on the creation of vacuum through the consumption of oxygen by the burning paper in the cup.

OBSERVATIONS FROM PICTURES SHOWN BEFORE THE ARRIVAL OF RITA
There are many offshore oil platforms with several flames burning from pipes in the Gulf of Mexico especially around Texas.

On land there are so many refineries with as many as the same number of pipes emitted burning flames (Fig II). It should be very hot in these cities of flames. These flames should be consuming a lot of oxygen and producing a lot of carbon dioxide.

HYPOTHESIS
The traditional doctor through burning produced a vacuum or low pressure in a cup that aspirated blood from the legs of my uncle.

The several burning flames from oil platforms and refineries in the Gulf of Mexico should be producing a vacuum or low pressure in the region. This might not be easily noticed by the population or scientists because the region is not a cup; but is noticed by nature that must fill this vacuum through very strong winds, storms, or hurricanes depending on the volume of vacuum created. This very low-pressure area (vacuum) pulled the eyes of the hurricanes towards New Orleans and Texas with great precision.

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita could be due to low pressure (vacuum) in the Gulf of Mexico caused by burning flames from oil platforms and refineries

These burning flames in the Gulf of Mexico with the consequent vacuums could be also pulling the hurricanes that come across Florida but because of land they do not reach Texas or New Orleans. This time the Katrina and Rita did not originate from the Atlantic Ocean but from a short distance in the Gulf of Mexico.

PROPOSITION
Studies should be carried out objectively to appreciate this my childhood experience and hypothesis.

The gas that burns through the pipes of oil platforms and refineries could be channelled for domestic use or for the generation of electricity.

CONCLUSION
This is my modest contribution to help the population of New Orleans, Texas, Louisiana, and the Gulf of Mexico in general.

A profound and extensive study based on this hypothesis should be carried out and measures that could produce a hurricane free Gulf of Mexico be determined and put in place.

I pray that this my childhood experience should not just be dismissed, but it should be carefully considered.

May God Help us.
